Foreign weddings are becoming increasingly easy to organise.

Jane Anderson, wedding writer, noted the past ten years has seen an increase in the number of couples choosing to tie the knot abroad.

While it may take a lot of liaising with a holiday company to achieve the ceremony they are after, brides and grooms could find the option is perfect for them.

Ms Anderson noted the biggest factor is cost, as overseas weddings are often cheaper.

"There is now a whole infrastructure of tour operators, hotels and wedding planners who will take care of all the legal side of things for you," she added.

This means the process is getting much smoother, which in turns makes it more appealing to those who would otherwise be undecided.

Individuals are advised by Ms Anderson to think carefully about outfits, as no one wants to select garments that turn out to be too heavy for the big day. 

Gardening services are being used a lot by UK householders as they seek to improve their outdoor spaces.

HSBC's Gardens Survey has discovered that Britons will spend an average of £185 in 2012 on maintaining and enhancing the green location.

Some £83 of this will be put towards landscaping projects, as people look to spruce up the space in order to add value to the property.

Peter Dockar, head of mortgages at HSBC, said: "The UK has traditionally had a love affair with gardens, but with households facing financial pressures, people have to make difficult decisions about where to spend their cash."

He added enhancing a garden will also help people's quality of life.

Across the UK, residents in the north-west will spend the most money (£148) on landscaping, while Londoners are planning the least expensive schemes (£20).

In 2011, Britons typically spent £296 on their garden and this reflects how people are downscaling their ambitions. 

Potential property buyers need access to smaller homes.

This is the expert opinion of Martin Collett, operations director at the English Rural Housing Association, who said the government should be doing more to help first-time buyers (FTBs).

He added the planning system could be used to ensure more affordable homes are built, especially in rural areas.

"You tend to find in rural areas that predominantly the properties coming on to the market are larger family homes," Mr Collett stated.

However, there are a lot of single people and young couples looking to get on to the housing ladder, but cannot do so because of a lack of options.

Mr Collett's comments come after figures from e.surv for April found that mortgage approvals for FTBs fell to their lowest level for nine months.

Just 11,307 home loans were made to FTBs, which represents a year-on-year reduction of 1.2 per cent.  

People looking into boiler replacements should take the opportunity to look at radiator sizes.

This is the suggestion of Adam Taylor, marketing manager at Artex, who noted the appliances have to be the right dimensions in order for them to be efficient.

"I've got rooms where we've put the wrong sized British Thermal Unit in it and you just don't get the most effective heating system," he added.

Mr Taylor observed it is vital that people spend time doing the calculations, as it is very hard to make changes after the process has been started because pipework needs to be altered.

The expert went on to note those serious about giving DIY a go should invest in good quality tools to make the job less taxing.

He remarked jobs are much easier for individuals if they have the right equipment at hand.

According to Artex, over 20 million homes require attention.

Some 55 per cent of landlords use lettings agents, newly-released research has found.

Figures from the British Property Federation (BPF) discovered that 45 per cent of property owners still choose to go solo.

However, the majority of those who do sign up with an agency are not aware they can benefit from a client money protection scheme.

It is looking to make landlords conscious that their rental income is covered if they use an agent regulated by National Approved Letting Scheme, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Association of Residential Letting Agents, National Association of Estate Agents or the Law Society.

Ian Fletcher, director of policy at the BPF, noted the main reason landlords get a company to handle their house is to "take away the stress and hassle of managing their property".

He added by choosing a respected company people can be sure their cash is looked after. 

Trying to self-diagnose is a dangerous method and so people should stick to going to the doctors.

This is according to Dr Victor Chua, a partner at consultancy Candesic, who noted individuals may end up "falsely reassured about a condition" if they choose to identify it on their own.

Part of the problem is that some conditions will present themselves later than others, so individuals may not spot the symptoms until it is too late, she added.

"Few conditions can be diagnosed by patients online, as they will rarely have the experience of a doctor whose job it is to make diagnoses," Dr Chua stated.

The medical expert went on to note even doctors can struggle to properly identify a problem outside of their line of expertise, so ordinary citizens should not think they can do any better.

It means the expansion of the internet means people have access to a much wider range of knowledge.

If used correctly, LED lighting can really add something to a house.

This is the expert opinion of interior designer Jo Hamilton, who noted the option continues to grow in popularity.

Because of this, householders may employ electricians to install breathtaking lighting in the home.

Ms Hamilton recommends the use of dimmer switches as it gives people "complete control" over how much illumination there will be in the space.

"During the day you can have a really strong light and then [turn it down] in the evening, maybe," she continued by saying.

Ms Hamilton remarked it is all about creating layers of lighting and as such it is ok to have more than one type in any room.

People need to understand that they will not want the same ambience for when children are running around playing as they do when they are looking to relax after a hard day at work. 

Combi-boilers can save homeowners space and money.

Because of this, people who have old appliances may look at boiler replacements as a means of getting more up-to-date technology installed in their property.

Andrew Aitkin, area sales manager for East Midlands for Remeha, observed the system means people only pay for gas when they are using water and so it means they can control costs.

"If you only have the tap on for ten minutes you're paying for ten minutes of gas, while with any traditional system you're paying to heat up your store of water every time," he added.

Mr Aitkin went on to note improvements in combi-boilers means people can now get 35 to 39 kilowatts and 60 litres of water flow, which he described as terrific.

With the government set to roll out the Green Deal, individuals may be able to make savings on the cost of installing such technology. 

Estate agents and landlords alike should screen potential tenants.

Tom Entwistle, editor of Landlordzone.co.uk, believes this is the "most important aspect of renting out a property".

He added typically, this includes carrying out credit checks and looking into the references provided to ensure they are legitimate.

"Even then you can still have problems, so where landlords rely on the rental income to pay a mortgage they should consider rent guarantee and legal protection cover," Mr Entwistle stated.

The expert went on to note experienced landlords are increasingly taking these precautions to ensure they are covered if their tenants do not pay their rent.

Towergate Insurance advises property owners to take a deposit of between four and six weeks rent, which then must be placed in an approved Tenancy Deposit Protection scheme.

As well as this, a detailed inventory should be carried out and agreed upon before anyone moves into a property. 

More should be done to make people aware of the risks associated with cancer.

Dr Lara Bennett, science communication manager at the Association for International Cancer Research, noted "smoking, being overweight [and] drinking too much alcohol" are among the major reasons people develop the disease.

Because of this, individuals should go along to their doctors for a check-up if they are worried about their health.

Dr Bennett would also like to see the government do more to raise public awareness.

"For example, most people know smoking is bad for you, but they are unaware how bad and how many different types of cancer smoking can affect," she added.

The expert went on to note targeting youngsters is the best option, as they can be convinced to not take up the habit easier than others can be persuaded to quit.

As well as this, Dr Bennett wants healthy living in general advocated on a much bigger scale, so people are aware of the need to consume fruit and vegetables.
